The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies are the parent organizations of 189 Red Cross agencies across the globe. These organizations, such as the Canadian Red Cross, not only provide blood, but they train volunteers in personal disaster assistance, emergency response team and disaster response team capacities.
CBC News reports that last Thursday advance members of Canada's Disaster Assistance Response Team began heading to Nepalese villages outside the capital Kathmandu to evaluate the ravaged area. The Canadian Red Cross have sent a team of medical professionals including physicians and nurses to assist the people of Nepal.
We cannot forget the Canadian people that have donated over $8 million dollars to the relief effort in Nepal. In addition, the Canadian Government announced that they will match these public donations.
