On Wednesday, October 5, 2016, from 8-9am PST Dr. Gude will present a case discussion on Lower GI Bleeding. The gastrointestinal(GI) tract extends from the mouth to the anus. When bleeding occurs, within the GI tract, the tract is conveniently divided into two sections; upper and lower. The ligament of Treitz splits the GI tract into upper and lower divisions, with the upper GI tract extending from the mouth to the ileum and the lower GI extending from the cecum to anus. When a patient presents to the hospital stating "that they are bleeding from their anus or mouth," the healthcare provider will base their history and physical to deduce the probable area of bleeding to formulate a differential diagnosis.
