Liberia is Ebola-Free!

Since it has been over forty-two days since the last victim of Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever was buried, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Liberia to be free of EBOLA! This announcement is an important step as the West African country begins its long journey towards normalcy. With Ebola's latest appearance, many Liberians feared using the medical facilities as they were thought to be sanctuaries for the virus. The epidemic's impact on Liberia's economy was also ...severe. Ama Egyaba Baidu-Forson, an economist at IHS Global Insight who focuses on sub-Saharan Africa, previously reported that she was decreasing her growth estimates for Liberia. Earlier she warned that prices would rise as food, and other staples became scarce and that the Liberian government could run up huge budget deficits in fighting Ebola. Some believed that multinational corporations operating in Liberia such as Canadian Overseas Petroleum, Caterpillar Inc, ExxonMobil, British Airways, Chevron, and Tawana Resources could have been exposed to temporary losses with a prolonged Ebola presence.
